Top Ten Tuesday – Top Five Historical Settings You Love

It’s been a while since I did TTT for the last time. However, I like this week’s theme, so I’m going to give it a try, although I can’t do a top ten, but only a top five.

Hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

Victorian Age, England
This is probably my favorite historical setting. I read a lot of books set during this time (I include also Jane Austen’s novels in this category although it isn’t quite correct). I find this age fascinating and I would have loved to live there in spite of the many flaws (but each period has some, so..). My favorite book set in this age is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë (which is also my absolute favorite book!).

WW2 (and WW1)
This is another historical setting I absolutely love, especially if it deals with holocaust. My favorite books for this category are Anne Frank’s diary and The Book Tief by Markus Zusak I added WW1 in brackets because I only read one book set during that time, but I absolutely loved it: the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfield!

XX century, Japan
Well, I love Japan and I love reading books set there! I often find out something new and interesting about their culture and I think that emerges the most in books set before XXI century. My favorite books set in Japan are Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden and 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.

Civil War Era, U.S.
This is a new favorite of mine. Back in december I started reading Roots by Alex Haley, which isn’t exactly set in that era, but it deals with the slavery thing as a whole. I definitely want to read more of that! Another book I liked set in that period is Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

I really like the medieval times since I was a child. I’m not really fond with things like knights, but I like to read how they lived and what was the society like. For this reason, I loved La Bambina col Falcone by Bianca Pitzorno, which is a children book which depicts a family living during the period of the Crusades. However, I like also A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

That’s all folks!
