Anime Elimination Tournament – Winter 2017 – Week 10

I can’t believe this season is near its end.

This is the first time I actually manage to follow some series weekly. I’m quite proud of myself.

This week’s ranking:

1. Gabriel DropOut & Little Witch Academia
3. Kuzu no Honkai
4. Masamune-kun no Revenge

screenanime

It seems she doesn’t like it.

I really liked this anime so far, but one has to be eliminated from the tournament. Masamune-kun no Revenge is about (as you can tell from the title) the revenge of Masamune Makabe against Aki Adagaki, a childhood friend who rejected him because he was fat. Masamune suffered a lot and so he decided to become an handsome boy and make Aki fall in love with him to break her heart soon after. The anime is basically a comedy slice of life with some romance here and there; I’ve really enjoyed it, I like the characters and the facts depicted and I laughed a lot. It worsened a bit during the last episodes, but I still find it enjoyable enough. Do I recommend it? Yeah!

Best pic of the year

I was mildy excited for this anime. There wasn’t much info around, I only knew it was a seinen with an historical setting. The story is about a Heizou Hasegawa, known as Devil Heizou, the chief officer of the safety department. This show has an episodic format; each one focuses on a different story, with lots of flashbacks involved. The action scenes aren’t the most important part of the story. It focuses a lot more on the characters and their relationship with each other, which is nice. Some of the episodes were really entertaining and that’s how it managed to be at this point in the tournament. The graphic quality isn’t amazing, actually it’s quite poor, but it’s effective since this show focuses more on the plot than on the art.

Do I recommend it? If you’re a fan of the genre, then yes. If you don’t like historical dramas, then, this anime might not be for you.

Anime Elimination Tournament – Winter 2017 – Week 8

Establishing a ranking is getting more and more difficult with each passing week. I’m going to regret each anime that gets eliminated at this point.

I don’t really know which anime I liked the least, actually. Each one was pretty good in its own ways, but there needs to be a decision.

Here’s the ranking:

  1. Gabriel DropOut
  2. Little Witch Academia
  3. Kuzu no Honkai
  4. Masamune-kun no Revenge
  5. Onihei
  6. Fuuka

Bye bye, Fuuka.

A generic screenshot for a generic show

Haruna Yuu, the main character of this anime, is an introverted boy who spends a lot of time on Twitter. One day, he meets Akitsuki Fuuka, who is your typical bright cheerful girl. Fuuka loves to sing and pushes Yuu and other people to form a band with her. Fuuka is a big fan of Hinashi Koyuki, who happens to (conveniently) be Yuu’s childhood friend.

Predictably, an awkward love triangle develops. Perhaps not even that, since it seems that Koyuki is the only one conscious of her own feelings. The show was pretty interesting at the beginning, but the lack of character development made it quite boring already. At the end of episode eight we are left with a cliffhanger: maybe something is starting to develop… but I had enough.

Basing on the previous episodes, I fear that whichever cue won’t be developped as well as I wish it to be, and the anime that are still in the game are all quite good, so there is a certain level to keep  by now.

Do I recommend it? Actually, yes. It’s by no means a bad show; don’t set your expectation too high and it should be a good anime to spend your free time with.

  1. Kuzu no Honkai
  2. Little Witch Academia

  4. Masamune-kun no Revenge
  5. Onihei
  6. Fuuka
  7. ēlDLIVE

We are saying goodbye to ēlDLIVE.

maxresdefault

The new characters won’t spare it.

This show is about a boy, Kokonose Chuta, who gets chosen as a component of an alien police force. Chuta has always heard a voice in his head that no-one could else could hear. I was a bit distrusful towards this show, since it seemed filled with sci-fi elements which I don’t particularly like. In the end, the show is much more focused on the comedy, with some ecchi scenes here and there.

The quality of the show itself is pretty good. I liked the art design and the animations. During the first episodes, I really liked the story too, but then it suddenly dropped and started to bore me. The plot isn’t evolving, the characters are quite plain and I didn’t see anything new during the last episodes. Which is quite a problem since two new characters were introduced just an episode ago.

Do I recommend it? Well… I won’t know if it will get better in the next episodes, but the first ones are worth a try.

Anime Elimination Tournament – Winter 2017 – Week 6

Hi everyone!

This week, I’m posting ahead of schedule! I caught up with the episodes and I hope to continue like this in the future!

We are half-way through the tournament. Things are getting difficult, now all of the episodes are quite enjoyable and it’s hard to choose which one to eliminate.

Without further ado, this week’s ranking!

  1. Kuzu no Honkai
  2. Little Witch Academia
  3. Masamune-kun no Revenge
  4. Gabriel DropOut
  5. Fuuka
  6. ēlDLIVE
  7. Onihei
  8. Marginal#4: Kiss Kara Tsukuru Big Bang

Although I find it quite funny, I have to say goodbye to Marginal #4. I’d rather focus on the other series, so I’m going to let it go.

I’m cutting the comment section because I don’t like to talk in detail about what happens in the episode, because I feel like I can spoiler something to a possible viewer or something like this. For this reason, I think the comments are going to be very similar in each post of mine. Instead, I’ll try to do a little wrap-up concerning the eliminated anime.

A date with a statue? Only in Marginal#4!

Marginal#4 is a show about a male idol group who is rather successful. When I started this anime, I was expecting cool bishounen and events regarding their life as idols. Actually, it’s a slice of life anime focused on comedy. The events depicted are usually set at school and we follow the four main characters during their daily life. Since it has an episodic format, there have been good episodes and bad ones. At this point, I feel attached to the characters and this is the main reason I find it hard to let it go. The music is cute; I like the art even though is simple and the animation isn’t of the best quality, but it is watchable.

Do I recommend it? Only if you are a fan of the genre.

Anime Elimination Tournament – Winter 2017 – Week 5

Hey everyone!

We’re already at the 5th week and that means we will be half-way through the tournament next week! Starting from this week, we begin to say goodbye to nice shows. It’s a shame, but eventually we will get rid even of the best ones until we have only two of them remaining.

This week’s ranking:

  1. Kuzu no Honkai
  2. Gabriel DropOut
  3. Little Witch Academia
  4. Masamune-kun no Revenge
  5. Fuuka
  6. ēlDLIVE
  7. Marginal#4: Kiss Kara Tsukuru Big Bang
  8. Onihei
  9. Kemono Friends

Unfortunately, Kemono Friends is out; our journey with Kaban-chan ends here! I was pleasantly surprised by this show: in my introductory post I wasn’t hyped at all, but in the end it was cute, relaxing and at rather entertaining.

Masamune-kun is starting to decline. I didn’t like the new character, so this episode was a bit meh since it was focused on her. Fuuka is getting worse too, but it still manages to keep its rank. The character I was hyped for, Koyuki, is pretty bland and I hate it. I hope they give her some solid psychological traits in the future. Also, speaking of the new character introduced in the 5th episode, I’m still mixed about her. In other news, I don’t really get what happened in Onihei. I was like “has this anime turned in a comedy show?” for most of the episode. It just… wasn’t what I was expecting.

On the other hand, Gabriel DropOut released a solid and enjoyable episode; a new character is introduced, similarly to most of the shows, but in this case she’s actually entertaining and well-rounded, so I like her! Speaking of enjoyable episodes, I quite liked Marginal #4‘s 5th episode! It was really nice and funny, even though that isn’t enough to rank among the best shows!

Happily, I’m slowly catching up with my watching schedule! See you next week~

Anime Elimination Tournament – Winter 2017 – Week 2

Finally I did it! I finished watching last week’s episodes just now tumblr_m4i9c7j9OB1qdlkyg As I said in my previous post, I had an important exam, but gladly I passed it (yay!) so I hope I’ll be able to stick to my watching schedule this week!

Since I already wrote about my first impressions for each anime, I’m going to change the format a bit and just talk briefly and in general about what I think about the second episodes~

fossa

I didn’t even know about the existence of this animal!

Starting from Minami Kamakura Koukou Joshi Jitensha-bu, the second episode focused a bit more on a technical side, but it is still definitely a relaxing slice of life. Unfortunately, almost everything is cliche and predictable, but this episode was less boring than the previous one. Switching to Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel, I’m so disapponted. This episode was sooo boring. It had the exact same concept as the previous one. The charaters are still stereotypized and not developed at all. I think this show would benefit a lot from a bit of focus on the characters, to let us connect with them more. Instead, Kemono Friends was a nice surprise! I’m actually starting to feel interested in what is going to happen next! I’m surprised that the animals depicted are somewhat unusual? Like, I’ve never heard about some of those before! Even though it’s a children show, somehow it makes me curious tumblr_m4i9c7j9OB1qdlkyg

kuzu

So scary!

The second episode of Little Witch Academia was good, but it fell a bit flat in the first half. Well, I guess we had to expect an introductory episode to let us get acquainted with the setting and the other characters. The last part was good, it had those old-school anime vibes which I was yearning for some time ago! Masamune-kun no Revenge is still going strong! This was a great episode, it kept my attention throughout it and I’m really interested in what is going to happen next. Kuzu no Honkai had a great week too, but somehow… I feel like too many things happened at once? I had already read those events in the manga, so I’m okay with it, but I don’t know if the same goes for a first time viewer? However, I’m so hyped! I was waiting for this part to come! I really liked reading Ecchan’s story and I’m looking forward to the next episode, where it deepens! Actually, I like almost everything I read ’till now, so I’m going to get hyped quite often! tumblr_m4i9c7j9OB1qdlkyg

seiren

What kind of shorts are those?!

Now, speaking of Seiren, things are getting interesting! Sadly, not much of a romance is developing, so I’m still worried about a possible rushed ending, but I’m getting more invested in the characters and events. Unfortunately, I’m not really fond of the male main charater; I quite like the first heroine, but sometimes she gets on my nerves. tumblr_inline_mpl4ntsuZO1qz4rgp The second episode of Onihei faced completely different events compared to the first one. From what I could see until now, I’d say this is going to have an episodic format. However, the stories depicted are really interesting for me, so I’m not complaining! Speaking of Gabriel DropOut, this was a nice episode! It’s so hilarious! I love the characters and the comedy. It brightened my day!

marginal-4

How the hell are boxers on a sakura tree??

On the opposite, Marginal#4: Kiss Kara Tsukuru Big Bang is starting to get quite boring already. Since the focus seems to be on the everyday life at school, it doesn’t feel different from any slice of life comedy anime. Luckily, in the second half some parts were crazy and it managed to make me laugh a bit, but I think my interest is steadily decreasing. Fuuka is doing pretty well; Koyuki’s soooo cute!!! I think I love her already. The male main character is a bit plain, but Fuuka is a great character even though she’s not a favorite of mine by now. I’m still looking forward to the next episodes! Last but not least, ēlDLIVE released a brilliant episode! It was funny and kept me entertained. I like that this show doesn’t spend a lot of time trying to explain what is happening and goes quickly into action. I don’t think I would like it as much if it didn’t do so, since I’m not that into sci-fi to begin with!~

Now it’s time to reveal this week’s ranking! Which show will be dropped this week?

  1. Masamune-kun no Revenge
  2. Gabriel DropOut
  3. Kuzu no Honkai
  4. Fuuka
  5. ēlDLIVE
  6. Little Witch Academia
  7. Onihei
  8. Seiren
  9. Kemono Friends
  10. Marginal#4: Kiss Kara Tsukuru Big Bang
  11. Minami Kamakura Koukou Joshi Jitensha-bu
  12. Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel

It seems this is the end for Schoolgirl Strikers! Unfortunately, this show disappointed me a lot and I don’t feel like watching another episode; I don’t expect anything anymore. Maybe I’m wrong (and I hope so!) but as far as the tournament is concerned, this show won’t be taking part in it anymore!
